Our Training Programme

PLEASE NOTE - from the academic year 2024-25 we will be rebranding as Bournemouth Bay Teacher Training Partnership and this will be what you see on the Government Apply website. Our new website can be found here: https://bournemouthbay-partnership.com/

The course runs for 37 weeks from September to July. During this time, trainees will spend the majority of their time in school. Ten weeks are spent at the 'first' school and 20 weeks at the main school, with 7 weeks of central and university-based training. A short special school experience is integrated into the school placements.

Central training is divided between Professional Studies (PS) and Subject Pedagogy (SP). The PS programme considers themes which apply across all subjects, such as behaviour management, assessment, SEN, pastoral work etc. The SP programme focuses on specific issues relating to the teaching of the subject in schools.

During the school placements, teaching experience commences with observation and builds gradually to a maximum of a 40% teaching commitment by Christmas. In the main school, this commitment will increase so that by the end of the course you are teaching about 80% of a full timetable.
