BPD SCITT Trainees celebrate their graduation

The successful BPD SCITT trainees from the 2016-2017 cohort celebrated their awards at a graduation ceremony at Bryanston School, Blandford Forum, on 11th July.

They joined family and friends, and successful trainees from Poole SCITT, South Coast SCITT & the Wessex Schools Training Partnership, for a formal ceremony followed by champagne and strawberries and photographs.

The ceremony was introduced by former BPD graduate, Mrs Feona Copley, of The Blandford School, who spoke about how her SCITT training had prepared her for a rapid and successful teaching career progression; Feona has been a SCITT mentor and Professional Tutor herself, as well as Head of Maths at The Grange, and also delivers training to current SCITT trainees in assessment for learning. She completed her Masters in teaching and learning after her SCITT & PGCE training.

The main speaker was Dr Terry Fish, Executive Headteacher of Twynham Learning, the lead school of the BPD SCITT, who is retiring after almost 40 years of teaching including over 20 as a Headteacher. Dr Fish congratulated trainees on their awards and welcomed them to the teaching profession, and spoke about some of the opportunities open to teachers embarking on their career.

Although the weather was disappointing which meant that the event had to remain indoors rather than extending into the spectacular grounds of Bryanston, this did not dampen the spirits of the graduates who were able to celebrate their successes with their colleagues, families and friends.
